Message from Human Rights Now: The human rights situation in Myanmar has been changing day by day since Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was released in 2010. However, there are still grave concern over the human rights situation in Myanmar, especially in areas with ethnic minorities. The increasing foreign investment, as well as official development assistance is providing another cause of human rights abuses in the country. In response to such a situation, Human Rights Now, a Tokyo based international human rights NGO, has started in depth, monthly research of the current situation and remaining human rights problems in Myanmar. We aim to provide regular updates through this website in a timely manner. It is crucial that the international community facilitate realization of human rights and real democracy on the ground in Myanmar without causing harm to the most marginalized people in the country. Human Rights Now hopes this update will help promote a proper understanding of the current situation among international actors and help them to discharge their obligations to promote and protect human rights.
